Executive Brief

The Assignment Was Not to Build a Dashboard. It Was to Help Build a Technology Company.

Data Monitoring Solutions was developed as a white-label, cloud-based solar-energy monitoring company for commercial solar contractors and their customers. Unicus helped take the concept from the ground up through company development, platform design, user-interface development, market launch, workflow integration, and continuing operational management.

The system connected technical energy data with customer management, automated alerts, historical reporting, custom branding, public-facing touchscreen displays, environmental-offset information, and advertising capabilities. Each function had to work as part of one commercial product that solar contractors could place inside their own customer relationships.

Business Mandate

Turn Solar-System Data Into a Manageable Service, Branded Customer Experience, and Recurring Revenue Product.

Commercial solar contractors needed a monitoring system that could help them manage installed systems while remaining fully integrated with their own brands, workflows, customer service, and product offerings.

  1. R-01

    Centralized System Oversight

Provide continuous access to multiple commercial installations through one secure online control center.

  2. R-02

    White-Label Customer Experience

Allow solar contractors to control colors, logos, system imagery, content, and customer-facing presentation.

  3. R-03

    Actionable Performance Information

Translate real-time and historical system data into reporting, alerts, and understandable performance views.

  4. R-04

    Commercial Product Integration

Create a subscription service that contractors could incorporate into sales, account management, support, and future business development.

System Architecture

Five Connected Systems. One Commercial Monitoring Platform.

The business depended on more than collecting energy data. The platform had to connect system monitoring, contractor administration, customer communication, public displays, and subscription operations.

Business Significance

Business Model, Software, Data, Branding, Customer Experience, and Operations—Designed Together.

A technical monitoring feed alone would not have created the company. The commercial value came from integrating system oversight, white-label customer access, reporting, automated alerts, public displays, subscription revenue, and contractor workflows into one manageable platform.
